ECS Returns from Tour

The choir has returned to Ealing after a successful trip performing at historic Wimborne Minster
The choir has returned from an enjoyable visit to Dorset, where we performed a reprise of our much-praised Isle of Song concert at the historic Minster in Wimborne, Dorset. The programme centred on the genius of British song, celebrating works from simple folk songs and sea shanties; works in a grander style by Elgar, Vaughan Williams and Holst; and hits by beloved British rock bands The Beatles and Queen.
The 48-member choir, our Director of Music Peter Asprey and pianist Charles Economou travelled to Dorset in early July for a weekend of sightseeing, socialising and singing. As well as giving the free concert, the choir enjoyed exploring the town of Bournemouth, dinner at Neo restaurant, and the lively post-concert reception at the hotel—with more singing until midnight.
Elizabeth Howard, member of the alto section, said “I enjoyed the tour so much. It was great fun to be away with the choir, getting to know people better and singing in such a beautiful and special venue. What a thrill to end with such fabulous audience participation! Can’t wait for the next one.” Alto Wendy Verco agreed, “It was so enjoyable and so well organised from start to finish. The dinner was amazing, and the hotel looked after us so well it was the perfect place for our group. I’m so pleased the audience enjoyed the concert, which really was great fun at the end!”
Around 200 people attended the free performance at Wimborne Minster, including several former ECS choristers who now live on the south coast. A highlight for many was the audience waving their arms and singing along to the final bars of Hey Jude. We are pleased to report that the retiring collection raised £1201 for the Wimborne Minster Music Foundation.
The choir gives special thanks to the organizing team, Adrian Burbanks, Cynthia Haliburn, Patricia Bench and Samantha Horne; the tour organizers One Stage Concert Tours; and everyone who was able to be part of this fantastic experience.
