Metamorphoses
A celebration of change and evolution
21 March 2027, 7:30 pm
St Barnabas Church

A concert celebrating transformation, discovery and the moments that changed our world
From mythology to modern science, Ealing Choral Society invites you to a concert exploring the extraordinary power of change — moments when an idea, an invention or a discovery transformed the way we understand ourselves and the world around us.
The concert opens with highlights from Handel’s Acis and Galatea, a charming and tender work inspired by Ovid’s Metamorphoses. After the interval, we turn from myth to history with Bob Chilcott’s Five Days That Changed the World. Five pivotal moments — from the invention of printing to the first man in space — become the framework for a vibrant and imaginative musical journey. Each movement is paired with music by other composers that echoes, illuminates or responds to the event it describes.
The programme also includes music ranging from the haunting beauty of the spiritual Deep River to Eric Whitacre’s luminous Sleep, Jacob Arcadelt’s Il Bianco e Dolce Cigno, Schubert’s setting of The Lord is My Shepherd, and Haydn’s exhilarating The Heavens are Telling.
Five moments. Five transformations. One extraordinary journey.
This is a programme full of energy, imagination and contrast — bringing together timeless storytelling with a celebration of human ingenuity. Join us for an evening that asks us to look back at the moments that changed the course of history — and to consider how music, too, can transform the way we see the world.
